Michael Fillinger has found success as a mental health peer support worker and personal trainer. The owner of The Manic Mechanic based out of Rocky Mountain House is a graduate of the Entrepreneurs with Disabilities program.

The new entrepreneur worked with representatives in the Community Futures Entrepreneurs with Disability Program with CF Central Alberta to get his business off the ground. He said his biggest barrier to overcome when starting his business was overcoming his own self doubt.

Now striving toward new goals for his business, Michael said, “Starting was exciting, and running it in a small town is great.”

When it comes to advice for other new entrepreneurs, Michael encourages them to fill their mind with positive thoughts and influences.

“Do what is right for you. Feed your passion. Be patient with yourself,” he said.

“And take a break sometimes and be you. It’s about the experience, relationships, and serving people.”
